Fintan Foy

Chief Executive Officer, Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP)

Fintan Foy joined the Irish College of General Practitioners as Chief Executive Officer in February 2017. Prior to his current role, he was Chief Executive Officer of the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland (CAI) from May 2011 to January 2017.
Prior to his post in the CAI, Fintan worked for 18 years in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and held a number of senior management roles at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in respect of the College’s activities both at home and overseas.

Fintan has been an active member of the Forum of Postgraduate Training Bodies holding the posts of Chairman of the International Medical Graduate Training Committee from 2013 – 2016 and in 2015 was appointed Secretary to the Forum for two years.

In May 2015, Fintan was appointed as a government nominee to the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland and continues in that role to this date. During his tenure ship, he has chaired the Professional Competence Committee and for the last three years has chaired the Business Transformation Committee which is overseeing the extensive developed of the Societies Registration and Online system.

Since May 2018, Fintan has been a Board Member of Polio Survivors of Ireland and is currently Company Secretary.

In his 5 years as CEO of the ICGP, the College has seen the transfer of full oversight and responsibility for GP training from the HSE to the College with a subsequent increase in employees and funding. Significant changes have also been seen in the overall governance of the College and structural and development changes at management level throughout the College. In the last five years, the College has also established an extensive overseas network including a 4-year GP training programme in Malaysia in partnership with RCSI/UCD and Iheed.
